Regional
Haze Consultation - Northern Class I Areas
The States of Michigan and Minnesota, along with representatives of other
states, tribal governments, and federal agencies, are working to address
visibility impairment due to regional haze in four northern class I areas:
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Voyageurs National Park, Isle Royale
National Park, and Seney Wilderness Area. Pursuant to the Cean Air Act,
states are required to make reasonable progress toward meeting a national
goal of natural conditions (i.e., visibility levels in the absence of
manmade air pollution).
In support of the requirement for consultation in the development of
state implementation plans for regional haze, this page provides copies
of the following relevant documents: joint work products, and summaries
of meetings and conference calls between the state, tribal, and federal
organizations.
