Donna's Life Outside of LADCO

Meet the gang...

  • husband Joe, who wishes he was a pro bass fisherman;
  • Ruth, soon-to-be-sophomore at University of Illinois at Champaign, music major (violin, although she recently had her debut concert on tenor sax with the UWEC jazz band);
  • Laura, almost a junior at Libertyville High, oboist and water polo player extraordinaire;
  • Philip, 6th grader, skateboarding maniac, plays a mean trumpet;
  • Simon, 6th grader, wants to play pro hockey or be a lawyer if he can’t get a full time bass gig.

My baby: a 7ft, 3in. Kawai. Takes up half the living room but provides hours of cheap therapy. I’m an enthusiastic (if not particularly talented) pianist and I love to play with others; if you’re musically inclined and in town for a LADCO meeting, bring your instrument and some music and we’ll jam. Currently I’m working on Schubert’s impromptu Op. 90, No. 4, and Bolcom’s Graceful Ghost Rag. (click to listen -- it's Michael Hawley playing, not me, but pretend I'm this good...Bolcom.mp3)

And if the music doesn't calm me down, I can always stare at the fish for a while.  Really, the fish are just decorations for the plants; underwater gardening is my hobby during the winter when I can't be outside digging up the yard for new perennial beds..  That's cryptocoryne balansae in the background, microsorum pteropus var. windelov growing on the driftwood, and anubias barteri in the foreground (and flowering on the left, next to the Siamese algae eater).
