Course Description
Stationary gas turbines are widely used for electric power generation, including combined-cycle, peaking power, and cogeneration applications. This two-day course provides an overview of stationary gas turbine operations, power plant configurations, emissions, air pollution control technologies, and applicable air quality requirements.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of gas turbine operation and power generation, with emphasis on emission sources and control technologies. The course also covers combined-cycle systems, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), steam turbines, permitting requirements, regulatory considerations, inspection procedures, continuous emission monitoring, and source testing.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the history and basic theory of operation of stationary gas turbines.
- Describe common uses and applications of stationary gas turbines, including combined-cycle and cogeneration systems.
- Identify major air pollution control technologies used with stationary gas turbines.
- Describe applicable federal and state/local regulatory requirements for gas turbine facilities.
- Identify typical permit conditions and requirements for stationary gas turbines.
- Explain procedures used to inspect stationary gas turbine facilities.
- Describe the purpose and application of continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS).
- Identify source testing requirements applicable to stationary gas turbines.
- Recognize key emission sources and the control strategies used to minimize emissions.
