Course Description
TOXC223 – Stationary Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE) is a one-day course that provides an overview of stationary reciprocating internal combustion engines, including engine types and operation, emissions, emission-control technologies, applicable air pollution regulations, and inspection and compliance considerations. The course addresses both compression-ignition (CI) and spark-ignition (SI) engines and provides information useful for evaluating stationary RICE sources and their regulatory requirements.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify the basic types and components of stationary reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE).
- Describe the basic operating principles of compression-ignition (CI) and spark-ignition (SI) engines.
- Identify common pollutants and emissions associated with stationary RICE.
- Describe emission-control technologies and techniques used for stationary reciprocating engines.
- Identify applicable federal air pollution regulations and emission standards for stationary RICE.
- Describe requirements that may apply to emergency and non-emergency engines.
- Identify applicable monitoring, maintenance, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
- Describe important considerations when conducting inspections of stationary RICE.
- Identify key air pollution control and compliance points to evaluate during an inspection.
